Storyteller Donna Washington Visits Heathwood Hall

On September 11th, the Heathwood Hall library hosted the nationally known and award winning storyteller Donna Washington as part of the Visiting Author program. Ms. Washington, a native of Colorado, grew up in an Army family and traveled extensively with them. While at Northwestern University she became involved in the theater and storytelling and decided to pursue storytelling as a profession. Donna has performed at thousands of schools & libraries and numerous storytelling festivals throughout the country. She has also been featured at many storytelling festivals throughout the country. Ms. Washington enjoys telling folk stories from around the world, especially African, West Indian, and African American ones. She enchanted our students with her blend of story, vocal effects, and facial expressions that brought the humorous, shivery, and exciting stories to life. Students in 3rd and 4th grade, 5th and 6th grade, and 7th and 8th grade enjoyed the programs she designed specifically for each age group.
