4th Grade Performs The Wizard of Oz

The fourth grade put on a wonderful production of “The Wizard of Oz” on October 18th and 19th. Auditions were held prior to the start of rehearsals, and all of the fourth-graders were cast as part of the “Rainbow Chorus” or one of the traditional characters from the Land of Oz. The chorus served as narrators as well as extra characters and even part of the set! The play boasted six Dorothys, four scarecrows, two tin men, and two lions, with the identically dressed characters switching off for different segments of the play.

For several years, the fourth grade play has centered on their social studies unit. However, with the focus on the reading curriculum this year, a performance experience consisting of deep understanding and connection to literature seemed appropriate. It proved to be a fun and beneficial theatrical experience for this grade.
