I/MS Performs in 1920's-Era Play "Charleston"

The Intermediate/Middle School recently showcased two performances of the play Charleston, an adaptation of the Tim Kelly book featuring music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur.

Charleston takes place in the vibrant 1920s, with Ziegfeld girls, raccoon coats, ukuleles, goldfish swallowers and gangsters! It is the story of Polly Pepper, a young flapper who is about to turn 18 years old and will soon inherit an extraordinary diamond necklace. As Polly celebrates her birthday with all of her friends and new boyfriend Buck Wayne, she discovers that trouble is afoot as mobsters plan to grab her necklace with a clever plot to crash Polly’s party.

Charleston features a cast of characters with names like Monica Woodsquirrel, crime fighter Lieutenant Fluke, Mona of the Crazy Cat Club and ’flagpole sitter’ Lenny Knickerbocker, to name a few.
